Charm for sleeplessness

What is it in sleep that I don’t want to find?
What’s in this dark room that I can’t leave behind?
Let the rain, oh the rain, let the rain fall down;
the breathing of sleepers is a sorrowful sound.

The country of dreams is a comforting place,
but no one who lives there remembers my face.
It’s brighter than night, and warmer than day,
but I’m so wide awake I’ve forgotten my way.

Let the winds all blow east, or let them blow west;
a sweet-tongued angel once sang me to rest.
Let the winners all lose, let the losers all win.
Lead me to sleep, and I'll walk in.
